What does aftercare mean in soil protection?

In soil protection, aftercare is chosen in various situations. Aftercare means consciously managing and controlling contaminated substances in or on the soil. This involves assessing whether these substances can remain at the site in a responsible manner.

Minimum requirements for the level of protection apply to aftercare. These are laid down in the Landfill Decree on Soil Protection and its implementing regulation. The Environment Act and transitional law are also playing an increasing role in the management of aftercare sites.

With an independent conformity assessment you demonstrate that your site complies with the applicable laws and regulations.

To which sites does aftercare apply?

Aftercare applies to, among others:

  • Former landfills
  • Residual contamination and former soil remediation sites
  • IBC constructions
  • Works under the Building Materials Decree

Each type of aftercare site is subject to specific requirements regarding delivery and transfer. In this regard, fully independent determination of conformity is essential.

Specialist in landfills and seals

We act as an independent specialist in assessing compliance requirements for landfills and aftercare sites. We do this both during management and during construction of foil structures, mineral seals and combination seals.

Our inspectors work objectively and carefully and record their findings in a clear report. If necessary, we provide this report with a declaration of conformity.

With an independent assessment:

  • Demonstrate compliance with legal requirements.
  • Limit your risks of liability and enforcement
  • Support your delivery or transfer with a declaration of conformity
  • Increase the confidence of regulators and stakeholders
  • Create clarity about the technical condition of the facility

Assessment of foil structures during construction

On request, we assess foil structures at various stages of construction. These constructions are used in bottom and top sealing of (former) landfills.

During the inspection we assess, among other things:

  • The quality of the subsoil
  • The materials used
  • The application of the membrane membranes
  • The execution of the welding, including welding method and welding parameters
  • Repairs and penetrations
  • The application of the covering layer

This ensures that the construction meets the specified requirements and functions sustainably.
