Proud of Nobian: European first in green hydrogen certification
At Normec QS, we are proud of our customer Nobian, who became the first large-scale producer in Europe (>100 MW) to achieve ISCC EU certification for non-organic renewable fuels (RFNBO). A milestone that advances not only their team, but the entire renewable fuels industry.
Nobian's certified chlor-alkali electrolysis plant in Rotterdam is now the largest RFNBO-certified green hydrogen plant in Europe, with an annual production of 14,000 tons of green hydrogen based on local renewable electricity. Green hydrogen production emits 10 times less carbon than gray hydrogen and can be produced using renewable energy sources such as wind, solar or hydropower. An important step toward a climate-neutral future.
Certified green hydrogen thoroughly verified by Normec QS
Since its recognition by the European Commission earlier this year, RFNBO certification under the ISCC framework has become a reality. Nobian is grabbing a first with the first official certification ceremony on an industrial scale.
At Normec QS we have been involved from the beginning, with pilot audits in cooperation with the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO). It is an honor to be the first in the Netherlands to issue a certificate under this new framework. This proves that certification of green hydrogen is not only theoretically possible - it is happening now. Congratulations Nobian, thank you for allowing us to be part of this historic step.
