Certification of Green Gas from Mono-manure fermentation

Green gas is gaining popularity as a renewable energy source, and for farmers, mono-manure fermentation is an attractive way to produce it. In mono-manure fermentation, only animal manure is fermented to produce biogas, which is then upgraded to green gas. To ensure that the gas produced meets sustainability standards, certification is essential. Normec QS supports farmers in this process by certifying their green gas production according to standards such as ISCC and Better Biomass (NTA 8080).

What is mono-manure fermentation?

Mono-manure fermentation is a technique in which animal manure is fermented without the addition of other organic materials. This process takes place in a digester, where bacteria break down carbon chains from manure into biogas; a mixture of methane, CO2 and residues. After further processing, the biogas can be fed into the natural gas grid as green gas. Once this gas is fed in, a GvO is created in VertiCer. Certification of green gas

Normec QS's role lies in certifying sites that produce energy in a sustainable manner. Green gas from mono-manure fermentation is an important part of this. During an audit, we assess the requirements of the various standards. For mono-manure fermentation, we look at the supply of manure, the fermentation plant, reprocessing plant and the final claim made on the GOs. Since manure achieves a very high reduction, we see more and more mono-manure digesters applying to us for certification.
