What is the CCWG?
The Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) is a global initiative within the shipping industry focused on transparent reporting of CO₂ and SOx emissions. Its goal is to provide a uniform methodology that allows carriers to measure, compare, and improve their emissions performance.
Since the 2017 data collection round (based on 2016 data), independent verification has been mandatory for participants. This verification ensures that the reported emissions data comply with the CCWG Carbon Emissions Accounting Methodology.
Normec Verifavia acts as an independent verifier in this process and checks whether emissions data have been correctly calculated, documented, and reported.
The current verification rules are set out in the Procedure and Guidance for Verifying the CO₂ and SOx Emissions Data Submission (v2.0). Verification must be conducted in accordance with ISO 14064-3, with a limited level of assurance.
Combining CCWG and EU MRV Verification
The CCWG verification audit can be conducted simultaneously with the EU MRV verification audit. This makes the verification process more efficient and prevents duplication of work.
During the audit, the following activities, among others, are performed:

- Review of relevant IT systems
- Interviews with key personnel
- Analysis of emissions data
- Verification of documentation and audit trails
