Our approach

The verification process consists of several steps:
Data submission and agreement.
Shipowners upload vessel data into the CSI database and agree to the verification terms.Selection of verifier.
The shipowner selects a qualified verifier, after which CSI provides access to the data.Comprehensive audit.
The verifier conducts a three-stage audit:
- Contract review
- Headquarters visit with interviews and review of documents
- On-board inspection with interviews with crew and review of logbookCertification
If the audit confirms that the data is correct and complete, CSI issues a certificate confirming the validity of the reported data. -
CSI verification helps ships qualify for tax relief or incentives at several ports, including Sweden, Vancouver, Gothenburg, Prince Rupert, Petroport and Gävle.

The CSI score is determined based on the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies and operational measures on board a ship.
Points are awarded for:
- Compliance with current IMO regulations for sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM).
- Measures beyond current regulations.
- Environmental data submitted through the CSI survey.The final score is calculated based on the quality and completeness of the submitted environmental data.

CSI verification is available for a wide range of cargo ships. Examples of ship types that can participate are:
- General cargo vessels
- Refrigerated cargo vessels (reefers)
- Bulk carriers
- Tankers
- Gas tankers
- Containerships
- Roll-on/roll-off vessels (RoRo)
- Roll-on/roll-off passenger ships (RoPax)
- Car carriersThis allows a large part of the maritime sector to participate in the CSI program.

CSI verification requires the completion of a comprehensive 25-question questionnaire.
This questionnaire covers, among other things:
- Emissions of CO₂, NOx, SOx and particulate matter (PM).
- Use of chemicals
- Water management
- waste managementIn addition, the Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) must be calculated according to International Maritime Organization (IMO) guidelines, as defined in MEPC.1/Circ.684.
During verification, data from the past 12 months are reviewed to confirm compliance and environmental performance. -
Scores are awarded based on the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies and measures on board a ship.
Additional points are awarded when ships:
- Go beyond current IMO regulations for SOx, NOx and PM
- Implement additional emission reduction measures
- Demonstrate improved environmental performanceThe final weighting of the score depends on the environmental data submitted in the survey.
