Transition to MEPC.379(80): What ships should do with older IHMs.

With the Hong Kong Convention entering into force on June 26, 2025, the need for an accurate and up-to-date inventory of hazardous materials (IHM) has never been more urgent. For ship owners and managers, especially those whose IHMs were prepared under older IMO directives, the publication of MEPC.379(80) in 2023 and Amendment Resolution MEPC.405(83) represent a critical time. CORSIA 2024: Important updates and compliance guidelines for EEA and non-EEA aircraft operators

The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is the first global market-based initiative aimed at achieving carbon-neutral growth in aviation from 2020. The framework for CORSIA is outlined in Annex 16, Volume IV of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, and aims to offset carbon emissions beyond the 2019 level. It includes requirements for the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) of emissions and the implementation of offsetting mechanisms. Important updates have been made with the publication of the second edition of SARP Annex 16, Volume IV, effective July 31, 2023 and applicable from Jan. 1, 2024. These changes apply to both European Economic Area (EEA) and non-EEA operators. This newsletter provides an overview of the major updates in the SARPs and relevant EU directives.
