Normec Verifavia looks back on a successful participation in Posidonia 2026

For Normec Verifavia, Posidonia 2026 was a great success. It provided an opportunity to reconnect with existing customers, meet new partners in the industry, and engage in discussions with shipowners, ship managers, operators, charterers, maritime suppliers, and other stakeholders who must navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

During the exhibition, our team presented a comprehensive portfolio of maritime sustainability assurances, compliance services, environmental testing, independent verification, and digital solutions designed to help organizations confidently meet evolving international regulations while advancing their decarbonization strategies.

A key highlight at the Normec Verifavia booth was our Emissions Verification Dashboard, an integrated digital platform that streamlines compliance with maritime emissions regulations for the requirements of FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS, EU MRV, UK MRV, IMO DCS, and CII. Visitors discovered how the platform centralizes the collection and validation of emissions data, greenhouse gas emissions reporting, carbon intensity reporting, submission of reports to regulatory authorities, generation of XML files, tracking of ETS emission allowances, FuelEU pooling, vessel-type-specific corrections, and CII ratings based on actual fuel consumption and emission factors.

The positive feedback from visitors confirmed the growing demand for integrated digital solutions that combine regulatory expertise with operational efficiency.

In addition to our digital compliance solutions, our specialists demonstrated Normec Verifavia’s expanding portfolio of accredited verification and assurance services. Discussions covered topics such as FuelEU Maritime verification, EU ETS verification for shipping, assessments of EU MRV monitoring plans, verification of alternative fuels and biofuels, “well-to-wake” greenhouse gas intensity calculations, RED III emission factors, ISCC certification, and verification of emissions data. As regulatory frameworks continue to evolve, independent verification remains essential for ensuring transparency, trust, and compliance across all maritime activities.

Visitors also learned about our services related to marine environmental compliance, including seawater testing (VGP + D-2), supported by our growing global network of laboratories and technicians covering more than 70 ports worldwide. In addition, our team discussed practical solutions for the preparation and maintenance of IHM documents, supplier compliance, CSRD, CBAM, ESG reporting, and broader sustainability initiatives that are becoming increasingly important in the maritime sector.

Artificial intelligence and digital innovation were key themes at Posidonia 2026, with many discussions focusing on how technology can simplify compliance and improve operational performance. At Normec Verifavia, we believe that digital transformation must be supported by transparency, traceability, and independent verification.

The trade show also provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge on key developments in the sector, including the implementation of FuelEU Maritime, the EU-ETS, IMO measures for decarbonization, alternative fuels, new propulsion technologies, emissions reporting, and the growing importance of reliable environmental data. These discussions underscored the growing need within the sector for integrated compliance solutions that combine accredited verification, regulatory expertise, digital innovation, and practical operational support.

In addition to showcasing our services and technology, Posidonia 2026 allowed us to strengthen ties with our loyal customers, forge new partnerships, and engage in valuable discussions with maritime professionals from around the world. The enthusiasm and collaboration during the exhibition reflected the maritime sector’s shared commitment to sustainability, innovation, and regulatory excellence.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who visited the Normec Verifavia booth. Your interest, insightful conversations, and continued trust made our participation a tremendous success, and we greatly appreciate the opportunity to share our expertise and learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.

As the maritime sector continues to commit to decarbonization, digitalization, and increasingly sophisticated regulatory requirements, Normec Verifavia remains dedicated to providing reliable independent verification, maritime sustainability assurance, environmental testing, and innovative digital compliance solutions.

Thank you, Athens, for an incredible Posidonia 2026. We look forward to continuing these conversations, strengthening existing partnerships, building new relationships, and supporting the maritime sector on its journey toward a more sustainable, compliant, and digitally connected future.

See you at Posidonia 2028!

The 2026 strategic roadmap: Navigating the final reconciliation of CORSIA phase 1

The first phase of CORSIA is entering its final months. For most operators, the 2025 reporting cycle—verified by independent bodies before April 30, 2026, represented the most rigorous data exercise since the program’s inception. However, a verified report is merely the “input” for a larger financial equation. As we progress through 2026, the industry is operating in a dual-track reality: Retrospective Reconciliation: Finalising the 2025 financial obligations. Prospective Monitoring: Ensuring the 2026 burn year, the final year of the first phase, is tracked with absolute precision ahead of the April 2027 verification deadline.

UK ETS: Treatment of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Consultation

The UK Emissions Trading Scheme (UK ETS) Authority has launched a consultation to gather stakeholder views on the future treatment of SAF within the UK ETS framework, particularly in light of the introduction of the UK SAF Mandate. The consultation explores potential changes to SAF eligibility, sustainability requirements, greenhouse gas (GHG) savings thresholds, and accounting methodologies, with the objective of strengthening policy alignment and supporting the decarbonisation of the aviation sector.

ReFuelEU Aviation Compliance in 2025: Verification Coverage and Compliance Patterns

ReFuelEU Aviation (Regulation (EU) 2023/2405) is one of the European Union’s key measures to reduce aviation emissions by increasing the use of sustainable aviation fuels and discouraging economic tankering. For aircraft operators, Article 5(1) requires that at least 90% of the yearly aviation fuel required for flights departing from a Union airport is uplifted from that Union airport. Where this threshold is not met, Article 5(2) is used for justification, and EASA’s guidance and Monitoring Tool support the monitoring and reporting process. The 2025 reporting year is also the first in which competent authorities can impose penalties for non-compliance with Article 5(1) of the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation 2023/2405. In 2024, the first reporting year, the main challenge was establishing the monitoring and reporting process itself. In 2025, the picture is more developed. The question is no longer only whether operators are reporting, but what the reports show about compliance behaviour and justification quality. That is where this year’s verified information becomes useful.

Navigating SAF documentation: Common challenges and best practices

As Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) adoption continues to grow under Aviation Regulations, documentation quality and traceability have become key areas of focus during reporting of SAF and verification activities. While SAF offers significant environmental benefits, demonstrating compliance requires operators to maintain accurate, complete, and verifiable records throughout the reporting period. Based on our experience supporting aviation stakeholders with compliance and verification activities, several recurring challenges have emerged. Fortunately, many of these issues can be addressed through early planning and proactive engagement with fuel suppliers and competent authorities.
